Aero Precision AR 15 parts with Blackrifledepot? By the year 1959, the Armalite Company was in the middle of some extreme financial problems, and were unable to manufacture or experiment more with their new rifle. To combat this, they ultimately sold off the design of the AR 15 to another gun manufacturer, Colt. Colt would later go on to become one of the biggest producers of the AR 15 platform for a great length of time. Around that same time, gun manufacturer Remington Arms was in the process of developing a new, small diameter cartridge with increased velocity, specifically for use as a medium-range rifle caliber. This .223 cartridge was then used as the basis of Stoner’s designed scaled-down AR 10 that he was experimenting with. This later went on to be named the Armalite Rifle 15, or AR 15 as we commonly know it as today.

The name M-LOK stands for modular lock, and was created by Magpul, a large name in the industry. This innovative new way to mount accessories, unlike keymod, isn’t an open source system. While any company or manufacturer is free to license it if they ask permission, but the M-LOK system must be made with the same quality as the original design. This means you are practically guaranteed that any M-LOK mounting or accessory attachments are all going to be very well made and uniform. Instead of the keyhole shaped holes that keymod uses, M-LOK uses narrow slits and T-shaped nuts that lock into place once they are installed. This system has many advantages, including the fact that accessories can be mounted either towards the front or rear of the slit you are using, giving you the ability to put it in just the right spot. This system also works well with polymer handguards.

Just like with the cold hammer forged barrels, cut rifled barrels have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. This process produces the most accurate AR 15 barrels that money can buy, and the manufacturing process has been fine-tuned over many years. The downsides to these barrels are that they are much more expensive to make, and if not done right, a low quality barrel will be more susceptible to accuracy issues. Overall, both hammer forged barrels and cut rifled barrels are great options for your AR 15, and either one will serve the average shooter just fine! See additional information at AR 15 Parts.

Depending on the laws in your state and your willingness to do extra paperwork, a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) can make for a very handy package. Obviously, NFA rules do apply. You’ll most certainly need to research that. That said, instead of an SBR, many builders today are opting to build AR pistols. If you have decided to go that AR pistol route, then Black Rifle Depot offers a few different short 5.56 AR 15 upper assemblies that are both affordable and reliable. Our shortest option is a 7.5″ 5.56 NATO Pistol Upper Assembly that features a 4150CMV steel barrel, a 7″ M-LOK handguard an A2 flash hider, 7075-T6 Forged Upper Receiver, a forward assist and dust cover, and our lifetime warranty from Black Rifle Depot.

Just like every other part of the firearm, AR 15 handguards come in plenty of different options and are very modular. With all of these options available, it can sometimes be confusing. Even the multiple different names (handguard, forend, forearm, fore grip, etc.) can seem a little odd but they all mean the same thing. So what is the big deal with the handguard? The handguard on an AR 15 is the section of your firearm that surrounds a portion of the barrel that is used, as the name implies, to guard your hand from the heat generated from shooting and to hold and support the firearm with your non-trigger hand. When it comes to the AR 15 or M16 platform, the first handguards were designed to incorporate into the rifle’s overall design for being lightweight.
