Of all tropical rainforests, 57% are found in Latin America with a third in Brazil. Other major tropical rainforests are located in southeast Asia and the Pacific islands (25%) and west Africa (18%). Temperate rainforests account for around 25% of the world’s forests. They are moist forests that grow on mountain ranges, usually along western coasts where westerly winds bring high precipitation. Temperate rainforests spread much further north and south than their tropical counterparts. They still receive upwards of 2,000mm of year-round rainfall, but experience drier summers. They have less biodiversity than tropical rainforests.
The North Western Ghats Rainforest of India runs parallel to the Arabian Sea and represents another one of the top-ten biodiversity hot-spots. It’s also a World Heritage Site! With national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and forest reserves, this tropical land has thousands of animal species. The Western Ghats, themselves, belong to a mountain chain that’s older than the Himalayan mountains! The site’s high montane forest ecosystems actually signify some of the best examples of the Indian monsoon system on Earth. India’s North Western Ghats is just as important as other tropical forests, as they track weather patterns across lands. If you’re looking to see an extraordinary landscape with endless adventure possibilities, travel to India to view one of the world’s tropical creations!

It is one of the smallest rainforests, but has a diverse habitat. As of January 2018 El Yunque is closed as it recovers from the massive damage sustained during Hurricane Maria, but you can continue to check their website and plan a trip as soon as it reopens. Here are some things to know before you go. Read more details at https://www.recordandoyunque.store/blogs/news. The 4 large peaks (El Yunque, El Toro, East Peak and El Cacique) survived the erosion of millions of years and 100 Billions gallons of water per year because they are crystalized minerals from ancient volcanos – very hard materials. The rest of the ground just melts in the rain. But then the millions of roots hold the ground firmly. And most cities and beaches nearby are the result of millions of years of erosion from this center of endless rainfall from the African Trade-Winds (Vientos Alisios).
