One of the biggest challenges when designing a new tyre is the need to improve fuel economy through low rolling resistance without compromising grip in wet weather – no easy feat. Here, Falken appears to have focused too much on green driving, with the ZE914 posting the slowest time around Bridgestone’s wet handling track and coming last in the wet cornering test. The Falken also struggled for traction in wet conditions, but performed better in aquaplaning tests and the crucial wet braking test, where it came fifth. On the dry handling track, the Falken felt soft and required more pronounced steering inputs, but it was just two metres behind the leader in the dry braking test. Rolling resistance was the lowest of the mid-range tyres, but the Falken is quite loud, coming 10th for interior noise. Discover additional information on Tyres Reading.
If this wear and wet grip combination carries over to other testing, this is the new tyre to beat. Stay tuned for our test in June (assuming we can fly again) Next up, we’re falling back to the tyres I recommended last year, which are the Michelin Primacy 4, Continental EcoContact / PremiumContact 6 (don’t ask), Hankook Ventus Prime 3 and Nokian WetProof. Go check out last year’s video to find out why. As for what I can recommend from the next step down in price, again Giti, Maxxis, Nexen and look to be leading the way with the Giti GitiPremium H1, the Maxxis Premitra HP5, and the Nexen N Blue HD+. As before, these can save you quite a bit of money, but you will be making sacrifices in certain areas of performance.
Summer season of 2019 was rich on new products and Nokian Powerproof – one of them that replaced the predecessor Nokian zLine in the product line. The tire uses Finnish proprietary Dual Zone Safety technology: the asymmetric tread pattern is conventionally divided into two zones – Power Zone (“capacity zone”) which is responsible for first-class handling on a dry track and Wet Safety Zone which is responsible for advanced resistance to aquaplaning and traction on a wet road. In tests the model demonstrates balanced high results on a dry and wet not inferior in productivity to other premium tires. Read extra details on https://www.wheelalignmentreading.co.uk/.
